MCM Group International was founded by Michael C. Mitchell, an internationally recognized planner, environmentalist and lecturer. Mr. Mitchell has contributed to more than 2,000 projects in 59 countries over this fifty-year career.

Prior to forming MCM Group International in 1984, Mr. Mitchell served as Group Vice-President of the highly successful Los Angeles Olympics, where he was responsible for the planning and support operations of the Olympics. Among his responsibilities included overseeing the planning of the 56 Olympic venues and supervising the architectural departments venue planning. During the Olympics he was responsible for the Games Operations Center and oversaw the closeout of the Games after their completion. As head of the close-out operations Mr. Mitchell oversaw the planning of the LA84 Foundation which was formed out of the $225 million surplus from the operations of the Games. The Foundation is now a U.S. leader in supporting youth sports and recreation programs.

He has served as a senior planning consultant to six other Olympic Games, four World Fairs, and has worked with many of the largest leisure, entertainment and property development companies in the world, as well as dozens of national and city governments.

Mr. Mitchell’s environmental work began in the late 1960’s which led to him being one of the organizers for the first Earth Day in 1970. After his work on the First Earth Day he was one of ten university students selected from across America by President Nixon’s Administration to form a national Youth Advisory Board on environmental matters, S.C.O.P.E (Student Council on Pollution and the Environment). He was assigned to the U.S. Department of Interior where he worked on the creation of the first Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). He continued his work with what became the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), writing an environmental education program for students.

Mr. Mitchell has continued his work on environmental and educational issues throughout his illustrious career. He served a decade on the Board of America’s National Education Association’s Foundation for the Improvement of Education (NFIE) which served as a laboratory to solve complex teaching and learning challenges.. Currently he is working with U.S. universities to increase teacher training programs in China for special needs children.

He has continued to be a leader on social and environmental issues since the First Earth Day. While undertaking work on sustainable planning and forestry in Siberia in 1993, Mr. Mitchell convinced the Prime Minister of Russia, Viktor Chernomyrdin, to establish the Amur Tiger Sanctuary to save the endangered Siberian Tiger. He co-founded the tiger sanctuary with Steve Galster, now the Global Director of the Freeland Foundation, an international environmental organization. Mr. Galster and Mitchell continue to work together with Mr. Mitchell currently serving as the U.S. Chairman of the Freeland Foundation.

Mr. Mitchell founded MCM Group to be a leader in providing world-class solutions for a better life – through design, build and operational services.
